“Plays Reid Anderson’s The Vastness of Space” Releases May 3
For his latest release, Vancouver based composer/guitarist Alvaro Rojas presents a guitar trio reimagining of Reid Anderson's modern classic "The Vastness of Space".
Originally released in 2000, “The Vastness of Space” was an early solo effort from Bad Plus bassist/composer Reid Anderson, and featured an all-star quintet with Bill McHenry, Andrew D'Angelo, Ben Monder and Myron Walden. Here, Rojas, bassist James Meger (Sick Boss), and drummer Dan Gaucher (Fond of Tigers) pay tribute to the cult favorite, with raw and gritty interpretations of the album's 9 tracks.
This project began many years ago when the original CD was stuck in Rojas’ car's cd player, giving him ample opportunity to get familiar with it. Later, he transcribed it as an exercise, and gradually some of the tunes began making their way into his trio sets at various local venues. Fast forward a few years, and the trio of Rojas, Meger, and Gaucher decide to learn the whole album for a set of gigs. Finally, enjoying themselves way too much, they take things too far and record their own version...
